How to Roll Back Drivers

If you are experiencing problems with your PC, you may need to learn how to roll back device drivers. A device driver is a program that allows your hardware to effectively communicate with your operating system. You may know that updating your device drivers is a good way to keep up to date on security and performance improvements made by the company that manufactures your device.

However, a driver update may sometimes make your system's performance more complicated, rather than improving it. If you notice problems with your computer after you have updated a driver for a specific piece of hardware (digital camera, scanner, sound card, etc.), then it could be that the driver is not as compatible as you had hoped.

In this case, you can easily fix the problem by returning to the older version of the driver that you were using. Windows automatically saves the second most recent version of each driver, so you can always backtrack to the driver you were using before the update. To roll back a driver, follow these easy steps:
1. need to have access to all Control Panel files
2. From Start, access the Control Panel
3. Go into Performance and Maintenance and then click on System
4. Select the Hardware tab and then click on Device Manager
5. Inside the Device Manager, locate the hardware whose driver you wish to roll back
6. Right-click that device and select Properties
7. In the box that appears, select the Driver tab and click Roll Back Driver

This should roll back the device driver that caused problems after being updated. You may need to restart your computer in order for these changes to go into effect. If this does not fix the problem, it may not be the device driver at fault.
