How to Repair Hotmail Login Problems

Hotmail is a very popular web-based email provider, but it is not uncommon for users to experience difficulty trying to log into their Hotmail accounts while using Internet Explorer. Users may be redirected to different pages, instructed to re-enter passwords, or even directed finally to a blank page, with no access to their email accounts. While there is no single culprit responsible for this difficulty, there are some steps you can take to help clear up your computer and allow access to your Hotmail account.

1. If you experience Hotmail login problems, first try clearing your temporary files. Under the IE Tools menu, click Internet Options and find Temporary Internet Files. Delete the files (making sure to select 'Every Visit to the Page' as well) and see if that helps. If it does, great! If it doesn't, you're not alone. Continue through these other approaches to see what works for you.

2. Make sure that Hotmail is not blocked. Again go into Tools and Internet Options, this time finding your Privacy settings, where you will find a list of blocked sites. If Hotmail is there, remove it.

3. Next make sure cookies are enabled. Go to Privacy Settings (as in #2) and click the Advanced button. Check the box to override automatic cookie handling, and make sure to allow session cookies as well. Click 'okay' for the next two boxes. Also, make sure that your cookie setting is relatively low, as the advertisements in Hotmail may trigger the site to be blocked.

4. Another approach is to disable your firewall or security software. This will allow cookies to reach your computer from Hotmail's server. But remember, security software is there for a reason, so disabling it is not a good permanent solution to your problem.

If none of these steps work and the problem persists, you may want to take a larger scale approach. Some sites provide shortcuts to your Hotmail account, in case accessing it directly does not work. You may also consider switching internet browsers, as browsers such as Mozilla Firefox are not associated with this problem as Internet Explorer is. Since there is no single cause to Hotmail login problems, there is no single solution, but hopefully these approaches help you solve your problem.
